About John Sanderson

I am an experienced business owner/director, having developed an industry-leading healthcare software businesses (www.hicom.co.uk) and having invested in and helped develop four other start- ups.

My background is in software programming but for the past two decades I have focussed my energies on developing businesses in the technology sector. My involvement in business at every stage of development has given me an invaluable insight into the tools and techniques needed to achieve sustainable growth.

My experience with the development of my primary business, Hicom, includes: sale of the business to a UK-listed company; a subsequent MBO; acquiring two businesses and incorporating them into the group; establishing businesses in India and the UAE; developing overseas channel partners; expanding the workforce to 120+ people; delivering year-on-year revenue and profit growth; attaining various business certifications and accreditations; and finally completing another sale of the business to a Canadian plc.

As an investor and non-executive director of the start-ups I support, I have helped take them from concept to established, profitable businesses, assisting them with raising finance, helping them with business and financial planning, introducing a corporate structure and supporting them with critical business decisions.

I am excited about tech businesses and understand how technology can bring about positive change, whether used as an enabler within a business or sold as a commodity or a service to paying clients.

Whilst I understand the need for effective business governance, as an entrepreneur with a number of successes (and a few failures) under my belt, I recognise the need for businesses to be flexible and adaptable, and I understand that sometimes the best business models defy convention. In my view, being open-minded and receptive to new ideas is the key to achieving success.
